I know that this journal has been running dreadfully behind, but now it's either going to completely collapse under the weight of real life, or blossom into something richer and stranger. (It'll all depend on my wireless connection, really.)
The thing is, I've just been named the Executive Director of the 53rd Pulafilmfestival, the main Croatian feature fest, held in one of the best-preserved Roman arenas in the world. And now... well, the job is as hectic as it sounds.
Plus, I'm keeping my regular translating employment, plus the film reviewing gigs. And I'll be shuttling between my home city of Zagreb and Pula on an almost daily basis -- the festival is in just over two months' time, and there's just so much work to do! Thankfully I'll have a hotel room at my disposal there until the end of July, plus a free cellphone, and my new laptop will prove extremely handy. I mean, I burned the promo CD of the previous years' photos while waiting for the local equivalent of AAA to come to the rescue of the car which drove me on one of my shuttling trips today. On the shoulder of a highway. How did I ever manage to live without my Vaio?
The promo CD is for the Croatian promo desk at Cannes. Yeah, I didn't know I was going to Cannes. Until today. And now I'll be the official representative of the Croatian cinema.
This is all SO SO SO surreal. All I ever wanted was to be able to make a small, decent film. But, seemingly, I'll be forced to do every other film-related job in this country before the powers-that-be decide to have mercy on little me and my foolish aspirations.
P.S. Cleo, if you ever read this, girl, I'll organise a live reading of the Gladiator m15m in the Arena. Just give me a shout. I miss your RAAAAAs, anyway.

I am so glad that things are going so well for you. While I enjoy reading your journal I am even more happy to here that things are going so well for you. May sound like a dumb question but are you still entertaining the idea of goin back to school? And on further good news.... The original SW trilogy theatrical release is going to be released on DVD. Thank you! And yes, I'll probably try and get my degree soon -- it's never too late -- but it's going to have to wait. I totally will have no time for anything except festival work until the end of July.

Hiya, Kate!
I'll do my best to update, really, but you will forgive me if things run as unsmoothly as this week -- this is the first evening I was actually at my home desktop since Sunday! Did two cross-country trips to Pula and Zagreb, literally going there one day and going back the next, back and forth back and forth, and my poor mom was so concerned about me being busy that she DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME SHE BROKE HER LEG AND ENDED UP IN A HOSPITAL OMG. Of course, I went and visited her immediately, and luckily it was a clean break and she'll be perfectly fine soon.
As for Cleo... um, no, she's still utterly unresponsive. I mean, I just called her on her mobile, using my newly-acquired FREE OFFICIAL PHONE, and even that didn't work. I dunno. It's sad to see the girl begging around the intarwebs for movie music when I have it all on my PC. Tell her that when she starts begging for the Da Vinci Code score, btw.
Oh, and here's an exclusive Pula update -- July 14th, the day before the festival opens, we'll hold the regional premiere (for Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia) of POTC 2: Dead Man's Chest. Many of the cast and crew will be there (amn't sure who yet -- we're negotiating, and hopefully Depp isn't otherwise engaged at that time), and Walt Disney Co. will throw a huge gala both at the Arena and at their own cruiser.
Should be fun, right? Tell Cleo she's invited if you can get to her at ALL.

OMG so busy! So sorry to hear about your Mom, but I'm glad she's going to recover nicely.
Sorry to hear about the Cleo thing. It sounded positive, what you had to say, but now that I read it again with this knowledge, I can see that it's not so much.
That's so exciting about PotC2 at Pula! What a coup! (On a fangirly note, if you see Depp at all, try and take out that girlfriend of his! Some kind of rufie in her drink should do it! : P )
I don't know how much sway I'll have with Cleo (read: none), but I'll see what I can do.

Am so glad that the promise of Easter is seeing itself filled out in wonderful ways for you. ::happy warm fuzzy grin:: I pray that all schedules will go well (or as well as coordinating events can go), and you will have time to put up your feet after all the rushing about is over. Saw a headline in the papers that the Cannes police want to go on strike for two hours during the Festival. Geez, way to make a statement, eh?

Didn't know about the police! Thankfully my apartment is just two minutes away from the festival, so I'll be going on foot. Those French are so in love with their strikes, aren't they?
And I can't think about what will happen once this ends. I'm holding about a dozen meetings a day right now, and your prayers are MOST welcome.

Sorry I haven't been around, life has got me swirling in a vain attempt to earn moneey in order to actually afford college and the travel necessary for my chosen field. Having had my brain implode from the utter boring-ness of my summer job, I finally figured out how to get to GJ. LJ is still blocked, but yay for GJ.
anyway, CONGRATS on the Cannes thing. I'm still trying to get to another film festival, hopefully Toronto again. You are soooo lucky and awesome. When you become world famous, don't forget the little people. I'm gonna go back to pretending it's gonna take me all week to write on sheet of stuff.
